Idea Cellular reports Rs 941.77 cr net profit in Q4

The company had posted a profit after tax of Rs 589.77 crore in the same period a year ago.

ITelecom operator Idea Cellular on Tuesday reported a consolidated profit after tax of Rs 941.77 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2015.

The firm  had posted a profit after tax of Rs 589.77 crore in the same period a year ago.

Total revenue of the company in the reported quarter stood at Rs 8,422.51 crore as against Rs 7,043.82 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.

Idea said the results for this quarter and financial year 2014-15 are not comparable to earlier quarters and financial years due to the changes in the network interconnection rule issued by TRAI Interconnect with effect from March 1, 2015.

"The gross revenue both for the fourth quarter of financial year 2015 and for financial year 2015 is negatively impacted by about Rs 1,050 million, though the impact on EBITDA is minimal," the company said in a statement.

The company reported increase in average revenue per user to Rs 179 in the reported quarter compared to Rs 173 in corresponding quarter of financial year 2014.

Idea said its customers made average phone calls of 400 minutes in January-March 2015 period compared to 397 minutes a year ago.

The company noticed decline in revenue from a minute to call to to 33.9 paise in the reported quarter from 36.5 paise in corresponding period but said that the elasticity of demand compensated rate decline with 16.3 per cent minute growth on yearly basis.

The company said that faster growth in mobile data business compensated the voice rate decline and consequently the 'Average Realisation Per Minute' (ARPM) improved by 2.7 per cent to 44.8 paise per minute in the reported quarter from 43.6 paise per minute in year ago period

For the year ended March 31, 2015, Idea Cellular posted consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 3,192.91 crore against a PAT of Rs 1,967.82 crore in 2013-14.

Total revenue for year ended March 31, 2015 stood at Rs 31,570.89 crore as against Rs 26,518.91 crore in 2013-14.

"Idea continues its enviable track record of being amongst the fastest growing large Indian mobile operators with 19.1 per cent growth in gross revenue in financial year 2015 at Rs 3,15,548 million, nearly 1.8 times the wireless industry revenue growth rate (calendar year 2014)," the company said.

Idea revised its mobile data subscriber definition by eliminating all incidental data users of less than 10 megabytes per month from its reporting.

Idea said the mobile data user (2G and 3G) penetration in overall base is now 21.2 per cent at 33.4 million data subscribers with blended mobile data ARPU (2G and 3G) at Rs 150 in the reported quarter compared to Rs 104 in same period of previous fiscal.

The company said that its average realisation per MB of data has remained largely flat at 25.7 paise per minute compared to 25.3 paise per minute in a year ago period.

Idea's 3G data subscriber base doubled with addition of 7.3 million new 3G users in last one year, servicing overall 14.5 million 3G data consumers.

During the quarters under review, the company registered 2.3 times increase in 3G data volume from 13.1 billion Megabyte to 30.7 billion Megabyte.

The earnings were announced after market hours. The Idea Cellular stock closed 2.79 per cent higher on the BSE.
