Idea, Bharti Airtel, RCom cut national roaming tariff by up to 40%

Country's third largest mobile operator Idea Cellular on Thursday announced reduction in national roaming tariff by up to 40 per cent with effect from May 1, days after telecom regulator TRAI reduced the ceiling tariffs.

Country's largest mobile operator Bharti Airtel too said its incoming call rates will be reduced by up to 40 per cent, whereas the outgoing inter circle call rates will see a decline of up to 23 per cent.

The outgoing local call rates will be reduced by up to 20 per cent, Airtel said in a statement. It reduced outgoing local SMS rate by up to 75 per cent, while outgoing inter circle SMS rate has been cut by up to 74 per cent.

Anil Ambani-owned  Reliance Communications too slashed national roaming rates by 40 per cent.

Meanwhile, Idea will now charge incoming calls at 45 paise/minute, a reduction of 40 per cent, while roaming anywhere in India, a company statement said.

Outgoing local call rates have also been reduced by 20 per cent and STD call rates by 23 per cent. Local SMS will now cost 25 paise and STD SMS 38 paise, on roaming nationally.

The revised tariff will be applicable starting May 1 for all Idea prepaid and postpaid users across the country.
