IIT-Guwahati sees spike in pre-placement offers, highest package at Rs 1.20 crore

The Guwahati campus has witnessed an increase in the hiring trend for technical roles with more companies giving pre-placement offers through internships. This year the Institute has received the highest Pre-Placement Offer of Rs. 1.20 crore against Rs 56 Lakh offers from last year.

IIT Guwahati has registered a 21 per cent increase in pre-placement offers (PPOs) this academic year with the highest package going up to Rs 1.20 crore from Rs 56 lakh last year. 

In total, over 218 offers have been received this year, against the 179 offers that were received during the entire 2021-22.

The Guwahati campus has witnessed an increase in the hiring trend for technical roles with more companies giving offers through internships. This year, the Institute has received the highest Pre-Placement Offer of Rs 1.20 crore against the Rs 56 Lakh offer from last year.

IIT-Guwahati director TG Sitharam said that he was happy to see the significant increase in pre-placement offers this year. "The pre-placement offers made this year show the hard work of students has paid off well," he was quoted as saying by PTI. 

According to an official statement, the major factor behind this performance is the strong internship program.

Dr. Abhishek Kumar, Head, Centre for Career Development, IIT Guwahati, said that major companies have started showing more interest in recruiting candidates through PPO mode and this has shown an increasing trend for the last couple of years. He said the institute organised webinars in order to help students to gain insights about the fields. "Along with this, we collaborated with technical clubs to help students reach the relevant study/ course material for specific profiles resulting in an increase in the PPOs this year," he added. 

Multinational companies namely Accenture, Adobe, Amazon, Cisco, Jaguar Land Rover India Limited, Citrix R&D, DeShaw, DevRev, Flipkart, Fractal Analytics, GE Health Care, Axtria, Axxela, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Barclays, BNY Mellon, Goldman Sachs, Google, IBM, and J.P. Morgan participated in the pre-placement process. 

Among these, Microsoft, Oracle, JP Morgan, and Samsung made the highest number of offers this year. Core Engineering, IT, Finance, and Analyst sectors in the current year have accounted for most of the PPOs till now.
