E-tailers compete in selling cow dung cakes online during the festive season

The e-commerce players have been trying to extend their reach into the lives of every common household to the extent that a niche product like cow dung cakes are now available online for delivery at your doorstep.

The e-tailers are cashing in on traditional Indian household demand especially in the ongoing festive season by promoting "fresh and pure" cow dung cakes on their sites.

The product is available in nicely moulded shape with neat packaging with the option to choose from 2.5-4 inches diameter of cakes, depending on customers' choice and requirement.

Priced in the range of Rs 150-545 on various sites in packs of 15-24 pieces, the likes of Ebay and Shopclues are also offering discounts of up to 31 per cent on them.

The e-commerce players are also providing shipping of cow dung cakes to foreign locations in USA, Europe, Africa, Asia, which have a huge NRI population. For shipping outside India, the cow dung cakes are priced in the range of $0.95-$2.54 for 2-10 pieces.

Cow dung cakes have been used in traditional Indian households for yagnas, ceremonies, rituals, etc. It is used to purify air as it is said to release oxygen when burnt with ghee.
