The recessionary gloom gripping the consumer durable sector appears to have lifted with the onset of the festival shopping season. And consumer durable makers are trying their best to cash in on the shopping fever with new product launches and attractive offers.
Consumer
electronics giant Sony is banking on its TVs to provide the Diwali bang. "The focus for this festive season will be on TVs. We intend to sell four lakh units of LED/LCD TVs during the September-October period," said Sunil Nayyar, senior general manager (sales), Sony India.
Sony expects to garner sales of Rs 2,000 crore this festive season, which usually accounts for 35 per cent of the whole year's sales. Sony's arch rival, Samsung, too has geared up for the season. The Korean giant is banking on its flat panel televisions, including its 'Smart TV' range, and home appliance product ranges to drive growth during this period.
While
Samsung launched new LED and LCD flat panel and a compact camera with a flip-up screen among other products, Sony has launched as many as 15 models of LED TVs. "We also have consumer promotion offers across categories, including TVs, cameras, handycams and home theatre systems," added Nayyar.
In fact, most manufacturers have lined up offers, ranging from freebies and prizes to discounts and financing options, to drive sales. "Almost everybody has come up with good offers. After the dry run this summer, the consumer durable market seems to have picked up finally. We are hoping for a great Diwali," said a consumer electronics dealer.
Samsung has pumped in a Rs 150 crore promotional package. "Titled 'Samsung Smart Utsav', the promotion offers consumers an assured gift as well as a chance to win the Samsung Smart Home bumper prize," said Elkana Ezekiel, chief marketing officer, Samsung.
Godrej Appliances is banking on Bollywood magic to do the trick. It has tied up with the Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster RA.One. "Based on our new launches and the attractive Smart Utsav offers, we are looking at a 30 per cent jump in sales during the promotion period," said Raj Kumar Rishi , vice president, audio video business , Samsung.
