Leading ecommerce companies Flipkart and Amazon launched their festive discount sale on Tuesday with pomp and show.
Whether it be print, outdoor, electronic or social media, no platform was left untouched by these e-tailers.
On Tuesday morning, Newspaper readers had to wade through pages of full-page advertisements upfront to get to the real front page. But Snapdeal tried to top it all by announcing discounts in several categories in a surprise move, including up to 80 per cent discount on fashion brands -an offer same as its rival Flipkart .
It is now a numbers game, as the trio puts out sales numbers to showcase success.
A statement put out by Amazon India said: "The first day of The Great Indian Festive Sale was the biggest day in the history of Amazon.in and four times bigger than the peak of last Diwali."
Amazon also claims that it sold 10 lakh products that were available for next day delivery and its sellers witnessed 8-10X jump in their daily sales on the very first day of Navratra.
But the astonishing numbers come from Flipkart. Reportedly, it sold 10 lakh products in the first 10 hours of the Big Billion Days sale, with 6 million visits from across the nation and 25 items sold per second.
"Bengaluru, Delhi and Chennai have emerged as the chart toppers in terms of visits from metro cities, and Ludhiana, Lucknow and Bhopal from the non-metro cities," Flipkart said in a statement on Tuesday.
"We are seeing massive customer engagement with over 20 million total visits in just 19 hours (on Wednesday) since the event opened on midnight. We are confident that over time Big Billion Days will emerge as one of world's biggest online shopping event," a Flipkart spokesperson told BT.
Snapdeal too has got its share of the pie and claims to have sold 5 phones every second, during its Electronic Monday sale. "The tremendous support from our sellers enabled us to provide attractive deals. We are well on track to reach $100 million sales on our Electronics Monday Sale," said Rahul Taneja, Vice President, Category Management, Snapdeal.
The company yet has not revealed sales figure about its fashion sale on Tuesday. It says that 85 per cent of orders placed on Tuesday have been shipped out already.
