Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday said if the Congress party prepares properly, it can win 2014 elections which will be its vice-president's
Rahul Gandhi 's victory.
The CWC has not named
Gandhi as its prime ministerial candidate, with party president Sonia Gandhi saying the decision taken on Thursday was final and that the Congress will take a call after its win at the hustings.
Facing a barrage of criticism over various scams and price rise, the PM who was addressing the daylong Congress Working Committee meeting admitted that the UPA government "made some mistakes". Singh told the delegates at the meeting that the losses at the recent assembly elections should not discourage the party ahead of the General Elections 2014.
He, however, hastened to add no wrongs were committed in the coal blocks' allocation and spectrum allocation, adding, his government had followed the "established norms".
"We committed some mistakes, but we have tried to learn from them," Singh, who is in the eye of storm over Coalgate and various other scams, said, adding, "but our achievements have not been fully highlighted". "However, the Congress's prospects are bright," he said.
