The rupee moved gained another 5 paise to Rs 45.17 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Wednesday, supported by gains made by other Asian currencies against the greenback.
Forex dealers said a higher opening in the stock market bolstered the rupee sentiment. In addition, dollar weakness against other Asian currencies also supported the rupee's rise, they said.
The rupee had ended 25 paise higher at 45.22/23 against the US dollar in the previous session following a rally in the equity market and fresh dollar-selling by exporters.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex moved up by 77.07 points, or 0.38 per cent, to 20,137.39 in opening trade on Wednesday.
