Increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks helped the Indian rupee gain 24 paise to 54.11 against the dollar in early trade on Friday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market.
Forex dealers said a higher opening in the domestic equity market and strengthening of euro and yen against the dollar overseas, also supported the domestic currency.
The rupee had lost five paise to close at 54.35 against the dollar on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the
BSE benchmark index Sensex rose by 98.95 points, or 0.51 per cent,to 19,669.39 in early trade on Friday.
