Public sector power equipment- maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd is consolidating its global footprint with plans for setting up solar power projects in Yemen and Indonesia.

"In a step towards further consolidation of its position as the flagship Indian power equipment company in the overseas market, BHEL has signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) with Yemen for setting up solar photovoltaicbased power plants at different locations in the country. The MoU was signed by B. Prasada Rao, chairman and managing director, BHEL, and Saleh Hassan Sumie, the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Republic of Yemen.

BHEL has also signed another MoU with PT APAC INTI of Indonesia for setting up a 25MW- 30MW solar photovoltaic- based power plant in the Java region in Indonesia.

BHEL has also signed an MoU with Indonesia's PT Star Vyobros for setting up a 200MW coal- fired power plant in the Sulawesi region of the country. " Signing of these MoUs reinforces BHEL's commitment to provide reliable EPC solutions to the power requirements of the South- East Asian countries,'' Rao said.

BHEL has been successful in establishing solar photovoltaic power plants on a total turnkey basis at quite remote locations such as the Lakshadweep Islands, the Sunderbans, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, etc. The solar photovoltaic systems are specifically designed keeping in mind the necessity for unattended operation and ease of maintenance.

BHEL offers a wide range of the- state- of- the- art solar photovoltaic modules suitable for a variety of applications.

These modules generate electricity directly from sunlight using mono- crystalline and poly- crystalline silicon solar cells laminated in EVA ( Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) and a high transmission toughened glass as a superstrate.

"In spite of uncertain trends in overseas markets, concerted efforts have helped BHEL to grow its global footprint consistently.

Even under such trying circumstances, in fiscal 2013- 14, the company's order inflow from overseas markets has registered a quantum jump of 28 per cent over the previous year,'' Rao said.

BHEL's global references include the entire gamut of its products and systems such as power plants, turbines, generators, sub- stations, transformers, motors, photovoltaic modules, oil field equipment and transportation equipment.

The company has established its footprint in all the six continents of the world, spanning 76 countries, and its technical competence has earned worldwide acclaim.
