Lawyers from
Apple and Samsung are set to deliver their opening arguments on Tuesday in a US court to decide the merits of Apple Inc.'s claims that Samsung's smartphones and computer tablets are illegal knockoffs of the iPhone and iPad.
A jury of seven men and three women have been selected to hear the case. Samsung and Apple have been fighting in courts in the United Kingdom and Germany over product designs.
Apple had filed a
lawsuit against Samsung last year alleging that the smartphones and computer tablets made by the South Korean company are illegal knockoffs of Apple's popular iPhone and iPad products.
Apple is demanding $2.5 billion in damages.
Countering Apple's claim, Samsung has instead accused Apple of stealing some of the technology and says that some of the technology at issue has been industry standards for years.
A U.S. District Judge last month ordered Samsung to pull its Galaxy 10.1 computer tablet from the US market pending the outcome of the upcoming trial.
