Jobseekers often try to be creative with their resumes while applying for a gig at their dream companies. Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of career accelerator HiCounselor Aditya Sharma also decided to tread down this path. Sharma shared his resume on LinkedIn and wrote he tried to be creative with his resume using Figma, a web application for interface design.
Sharma, who has also worked with companies like PwC and Deloitte, stated in his post that it is so difficult to get on the recruiters’ radar with a normal-looking resume. The resume shared by Sharma was a play on Netflix’s home screen.
Sharma described himself as an “innovative and proactive product manager offering five years of experience building products in the finance and energy industry from ideation to launch. Excellent reputation for resolving problems, managing cross-functional teams, and driving overall product success.”
While some users backed Aditya for being creative, others said the contents on the resume were not clear despite the great design. Manager of the HR data analytics and business intelligence at the digital customer experience solutions company TDCX Anudeep Kamuni said, “Great work man, if I’m a recruiter I would definitely get impressed. The world is moving fast and looking for creative people. There is an identity crisis everywhere, and something like this will get the attention sure to take the first leap in the interview process... This looks much much better than a typical old-school resume.”
Social media strategist Himani Goyal wrote, “Wowo.. what a pleasure seeing this type of resume... Full Netflix theme for Netflix hiring... Pretty impressed that it can be done in that way also…”
Senior talent acquisition partner at the UK-based fintech company SumUp Victoria Tuong wrote, “Talent partner here. It’s heavy on the eyes, crowded, the colours are yelling at me, the fonts are inconsistent, and it feels like it doesn’t tell a story, just lists ingredients. It reminds me of the back of a cereal box.”
A user named Florian Martinon wrote, “Hey Aditya, I think you should make it sort for the recruiter to be able to quickly read a few words or sentences that would sum up the essential they need to know about you. I get lost in the information on that resume and even though the design is relevant, I don’t want to read all of it. Remember: less is more.”
