Zanjeer, the high-on-action Bollywood release of last week, is faring poorly at the box office. According to Boxofficeindia.com, the movie has managed to gross under Rs 10 crore nett at the box office in its first weekend.
A remake of the 1973 eponymous film, Apoorva Lakhia's Zanjeer marks the Bollywood debut of popular southern star Ram Charan Teja, who steps into a role originally essayed by megastar Amitabh Bachchan. He shares screen space with Priyanka Chopra, Prakash Raj and Sanjay Dutt.
The movie, according to Boxofficeindia.com, is made at a budget of Rs 60 crore, including print and marketing costs.
It opened poorly all over, even though single-screen theatres witnessed better collections than multiplexes.
Zanjeer's Telugu version 'Thoofan', starring the same actors, has done better than the Hindi one due to its opening but has still failed to report stellar collections.
