1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmuller, the world's first-ever motorcycle

By now, almost everyone knows that alongwith fast cars, bikes too fuel's most men's not-so-secret fantasies. And that covetousness was on full display this April at the Bonhams auction at the International Classic MotorCycle Show at Stafford, UK. Bikes of various vintages were on display, but one stood out for its great historical significance- the 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmuller 'motorrad'.

The first-ever two-wheel vehicle to be called a motorcycle, it understandably caused quite a stir. The bike was put up for bids in its original condition by its American owner, whose family has owned it since the 1930s. The motorrad will now travel back home to Germany-it was manufactured in Munich-because its new buyer is a German private collector who bought it for a cool 86,200 (Rs 58.5 lakh).
