Looking its best on a two-button suit with a low-button stance (i.e., the buttons are lower down the torso) or on a double-breasted suit (which are making a comeback on the fashion circuit), this lapel is a classic. Throwing the shoulders into relief, it also helps to narrow the waist.
The fall/winter look being that of sharp, close-fitted silhouettes, no wonder all leading designers are coming out with their own versions of the peak lapel look for their suits and jackets.
Dinner jackets
The epitome of the “refined look”—with a generous dose of the stiff upper lip—the dinner jacket (or its American cousin, the tuxedo) has long been the standard bearer of peak lapels. Although the classic dinner jacket comes with different lapels, nothing exemplifies formal partying more than a peak lapel jacket with a bow.
