Wines that stun the world with their taste

Wines that stun the world with their taste

Brought to life in the historic vineyards of Bordeaux, the Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 vintage is expected to stun the world for the next 70 years.

In May 1787, American President Thomas Jefferson spent some time at the sprawling vineyards of Bordeaux and listed Chteau Lafite as one of the finest wines to come out of this French region. All Chteau Lafite, regardless of the vintage and blend, feature almond and violent in their aroma. The legacy continues to this day. These red wines are intricate fusions of the grape varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%). The 1982 vintage is the modern day equivalent of Lafite-Rothschild's immortal 1959 and is expected to be a favourite of connoisseurs for up to 70 years! It possesses a dark, dense ruby and purple colour that is gently lightened at the rim. Owing to a process of 18 - 20 year oak barrel ageing, one can sense an infused of smoky wood in its jammy cherry and black fruit aromas. While the finish lasts for nearly a minute, an aftertaste of tannin remains. A tad too powerful for a Lafite, the wine unfolds to reveal extraordinary complexity, purity and overall symmetry, besides a rich depth in its flavours and aromas.

Chablis Bougros Grand CRU

Blended and aged on the Chablis vineyards of Greater Burgundy, France, this is an exquisite white. Intricately harvested by hand, the wine involves a gentle pressing of Chardonnay grapes which leads to well balanced flavours and aromas in each whiff and sip. While it is floral on the nose, it features a citrusy taste that draws on the notes of orange and lemon marmalade. Owing to the year-long ageing in oak barrels, the wines tout a slightly smoky flavour. This pale yellow spirit with slight reflections of green looks extravagent in pristine goblets and is best served at a 14 degree C (55 degree F).

Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon 1995

Released in February 2011, this red wine was intricately crafted in the French wine haven of Napa Valley. It features an intense infusion of juicy, black and purple fruits of blackberries and boysenberries which are then layered with baking spices and licorice. Owing to this, the spirit is full bodied and juicy with a velvety middle palate. The particularly long finish of the wine is infused with dark mocha flavours along with chewy tannins on the side.
