Games people play

While 2008 will not see the launch of any major new games platforms, there will be a host of exciting titles for the Sony PlayStation3 (PS3), Microsoft Xbox360, Nintendo Wii and PC as well as exciting launches on the handheld devices such as the Nintendo DS and Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP). And they promise to keep you hooked to the world of gaming more than ever before.

SoulCalibur IV (PS3, Xbox360)

This fantastic 3D fighting title from Namco comes with new characters, new stages and fighting modes. Players will also be able to play with Star Wars characters such as Yoda (Xbox360) and Darth Vader (PS3). The game features cooler fighting moves and far slicker graphics than the already smooth previous versions. You should be really looking forward to this game. Unless you hate to fight!

Gears of War 2 (Xbox360)

This title was the first ‘mega-hit’ for Microsoft’s new console and the game sold more than 4.5 million copies. A second version was a certainty. Expect more blood and gore, but more details will emerge shortly. We can’t really tell you how this will change the way you live just yet. But trust us, it will.

UEFA Euro 2008
(Xbox360, PS2, PS3, PSP, PC)

As if Electronic Arts did not raise the bar enough with the radically different FIFA 2008, this special version of the game developed for the upcoming Euro Championships has even faster players and slicker moves than before. This game might just make you a fitter individual. Take our advice: play this with a pal, then go get a football, step out and bend it like Beckham. We take no responsibility for broken window panes, though.

Mario Kart (Wii)

Fancy driving in the fast lane but the cops won’t let you zoom? Nintendo stretches the Mario franchise further with this exciting new title which puts a different spin altogether on a racing title. You control the game using the difficult to master Wii racing wheel, but once you have a handle on that, this game will be very good fun to play. It is sure to make you feel happier and good about yourself.

Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Gran Turismo is generally regarded as the finest racing game series developed for game consoles and the next version is expected to be even better. Sony recently launched a ‘Prologue’ version of the game while working on the full version. If it is any indication, the ‘full’ version will be the best racing game ever made. Win at this game and one thing is sure to change about you— you’re gonna walk with a swagger with your chin up—feeling rather like Lewis Hamilton after yet another podium finish.
