Spa.ce
Where: 70 Cunningham Road, Bangalore
Open: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Contact: (080)-41327526
Must try: Thalmos Therapy
Cost: Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,500
The Chill Factor: A year after moving to India from the UK to look for new business opportunities, Nina Bual zeroed in on the booming business for wellness to get started.
The result: the 5,000 sq. ft spa called Spa.ce on Bangalore’s arterial Cunningham Road. “There are very few spas and wellness centres in Bangalore. Most of them are either in luxury hotels or far outside town. We wanted to provide a place in the middle of town where people could get pampered,” says Bual.
Spa.ce, located in a sprawling (and recently rebuilt) colonial bungalow, offers a wide variety of therapies, including Thalmos (seaweed) therapy, foot reflexology, a variety of body scrubs and an assortment of massages. While the seaweed therapy helps the body balance out its requirement for natural minerals and salts, foot reflexology focusses on massaging pressure points and reflex points that correspond to individual body parts.
Other therapeutic massages include an aromatherapy massage, which is used with techniques to stimulate blood flow and lymph fluid. In tandem with its aim of rejuvenating your body, this spa also tries to freshen your mind with hypnotherapy, which, the owners claim, allows you to access your subconscious and help you understand your own mind.
Despite popular perception, Bual says the unisex salon attracts an even split of men and women. Spa.ce even has a massage room for couples. For Bangaloreans, this is a real chilled out place to head to this fortnight.
