"What happens in the classroom also drives what happens outside it," says Professor D.S. Rao, Dean, Foundation for Liberal and Management Education (FLAME) School of Business (FSB). Just ask Parth Joshi, a second-year student at the scenic institute in Lavale, Pune. Away from the noisy and crowded Mumbai city, he not only finds the studies at FSB useful, but also the post-academic hour activities.

FSB looks at education in a holistic manner -students not only learn business and management skills, but are also made aware of the society at large. In fact, subjects such as Social Sciences, Psychology and Performing Arts are compulsory for FSB students. The institute also offers some of the best facilities - the library, for instance - and gives its students access to Reuters terminals, CRISIL and publications such as Financial Times.

Then, there are club activities which are run by the students themselves and overseen by an academician. Joshi, for instance, is part of a financial investment lab, wherein FSB provides select students with about Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh to be invested. "This is real money that is utilised from the corpus of the college. While the loss is borne by the institute, the profit is given to the students," says Rao.
