Design & Built
Nokia seems to have mastered the art of designing smartphones irrespective of the trends followed by competitors. Despite the broad build and weight, the Nokia Lumia 920 is an attractive phone. With a 4.5-inch capacitive touch display with 768x1280p resolution, the device is rock solid with a polycarbonate unibody. Just below the display are the WP8 capacitive touch keys with back, Windows (home) and search. While the left panel is clean, the right panel has quite a number of controls including the volume controls, power key and the camera key. The back panel looks neat with the camera lens placed on the small metal casing that has Nokia and Carl Zeiss written over it.
Work
The customisable live tiles on the Windows Phone 8 operating system allowed us to pin the most commonly used apps on the main screen itself. Apart from handling emails, the Internet Explorer also offers a good browsing experience. The address bar at the bottom can also be used to do a quick search on Bing, or Google. Also onboard is the Mobile Office that allows us to open documents and continue with the editing. We could created new documents and back them up on the Sky Drive or go ahead to save it on the device only. By holding the back key, we can view the apps that we have been using. Unfortunately, Windows Phone 8 does not support real-time multitasking and we can only re-launch apps from their frozen state.
Apps
The 920 comes with plenty of pre-installed applications like Cinemagraph, Nokia Care, Nokia Citylens, Angry Birds Roost, Nokia Music and Wallet. More apps can be downloaded by visiting the Windows Market Place. But there is still a dearth of applications here in comparison to the iOS and Android platforms.
Battery
The bright screen and great imaging optics require a good battery backup. And Nokia has packed in a 2000 mAh non-removable battery that manages to last a day with heavy usage including calls, constant push mail support, web browsing and imaging.
Fun
The highlight of the Nokia Lumia 920 is its 8 MP camera with the company's PureView technology along with the optical image stabilisation that helps in capturing good images even in low light. The floating lens technology absorbs shake while shooting. Videos shot with the camera are also much steadier. The bright display and loud sound helped in offering a good multimedia experience.
