Described by Michael Govan, director of the LA County Museum of Art as an artist whose work is known but rarely seen, 70-year-old James Turrell will be showcasing his first exhibition at the Guggenheim in New York since 1980. Slated to run between June 21 and September 25 this year, the artist's long-awaited showcase will focus on his groundbreaking explorations into the field of perception, light, colour, and space, offering a fresh perspective on the space enclosed within the dome of the Guggenheim.

Essentially, this new project will inundate the space within the museum with shifting light, and transform it dramatically. Putting a spin on American architect Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic structure, the exhibition reinterprets the air and light occupying the museum's central void, forcing visitors to reimagine the building within these new parameters.

Aside from New York, the artist will also be showing at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on May 26th and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston from April 7th right up till August 18th.
