There is no doubt that MapmyIndia has some of the best maps, but Rs 2,490 for the software is a bit pricey, considering Google Maps (far from perfect, admittedly) is free.
Give MapmyIndia credit where it's due. Realising that there is possibly a very limited market for standalone navigation devices in India, it has tied up with Sygic software to offer MapmyIndia Maps and turnby-turn navigation on select Symbian Series 60, Windows Mobile and Android mobile phones. There is no doubt that MapmyIndia has some of the best maps, but Rs 2,490 for the software is a bit pricey, considering Google Maps (far from perfect, admittedly) is free.

MapmyIndia claims that users won't incur data charges on the go (unlike Google Maps, which always downloads new maps everytime you use it), but it is highly likely that users, who would use such a product, might have an unlimited data anyway, plus it is a three gigabyte install file. On their Twitter account, MapmyIndia told our correspondent, "Who Trusts Google Maps?" Umm. As of now, we're sticking with Google Maps.
