Mobile number portability roll-out
1. March 2006 Telecom regulator TRAI first proposes mobile number portability (MNP). Initially targets launch by April 2007.
2. February 2009 Department of Telecommunications (DoT) invites bids from global telecom firms to launch MNP in India.
3. March 2009 DoT shortlists portability service providers Syniverse and Telcordia for MNP implementation.
4. November 2009 TRAI fixes portability charges at Rs 19 and announces that MNP will be rolled out by the end of the year
5. November 2010 Haryana becomes the first state in the country to introduce MNP.
