A nation of digital natives


Young Indians are ‘digital natives’ - extremely technology savvy and increasingly optimistic about India’s economic future — a recent survey of 14,000 Indian schoolchildren by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has found.
“One out of 10 people on the planet is under 25 years old and living in India. That is the significance of India’s next generation and what they think and aspire to do hold insights for all those who aim to engage with this Web 2.0 Generation,” says S. Ramadorai, CEO and MD, TCS.
The study, the largest of its kind till date, confirms that students are shifting their academic and social life online.
- 63% of city highschool students spend an hour online daily
- 93% youth are aware of social networking
- 46% use online sources to access news; TV, newspaper users at 25%
- 62% have a personal computer at home
- 1 in 4 students owns a laptop in metros
