India gets addicted to almonds

The humble almond from California is taking India by storm. How else can one term the phenomenon of 39,462.5 metric tonnes of the famous California Almonds being imported by India in 2008-09 alone, a 19 per cent growth from the previous fiscal?
According to the latest Almond Board Position Report issued in August, India was the fourth-largest export market for California Almonds following Spain, Germany and China.
A recent study by IMRB for the Almond Board of California reveals some interesting statistics. For instance, 47 per cent of Indians who responded cited almonds as the most preferred dry fruit and 64 per cent felt it was the healthiest dry fruit as well. This is one nut that is surely doing good business!
