The government's flagship rural employment guarantee scheme has come under fire from the national auditor. Shoddy execution and poor utilisation of funds dog the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), according to the Comptroller and Auditor General's report. The recent study found the MGNREGS struggling to meet its twin objectives - providing livelihood security and creating physical assets.
