Review: Acer Aspire S3 and Fujifilm X-Pro1
An affordable ultrabook and a camera that pushes the limits.

Acer Aspire S3
Acer Aspire S3
Easy on the Pocket
The Acer Aspire S3 ultrabook employs the much talked-of third generation Intel Ivy Bridge processor. But that does not mean it has put on weight. It is still as slim and light as its predecessors. The arrow keys on the keyboard may be a bit smaller than on other ultrabooks, the screen with its 1366x768 resolution, a little dull. But such complaints seem minor considering the S3 is the most affordable ultrabook in India. The new 1.7Ghz i5-3317U processor also makes it a really fast machine. With super-fast video processing and imaging there will be no full stops on creativity. There are a host of security features too, which makes it a good machine for corporate users.
+ve: Long battery life Easy to carry
-ve: Screen's low resolution Small-sized keys on keyboard
Price: Rs 51,499
Fujifilm X-Pro1
Picture Perfect
Do not let the retro look mislead you. The Fujifilm X-Pro1 is a camera that pushes the limits of compact interchangeable lens cameras. It is mirrorless, peppered with buttons and dials, and a host of built-in cutting edge features. The new X-Trans CMOS sensor, for instance, considerably reduces the 'moir effect', improving picture quality. The colours are more lifelike. This 16 MP camera also packs more options that you would see on DSLRs. The image quality is excellent due to the specially designed FUJINON XF Lens series. It has a three-inch LCD monitor and a Reverse Galilean hybrid multi-viewfinder. Overall an excellent compact camera, if you can afford it.
+ve: Versatile. Excellent picture quality
-ve: Expensive Too many controls
Price: Rs 99,999
