'An useful guide'

'An useful guide'

The cover story on the best gadgets of 2011 was informative and will prove a useful guide.
A WINNING LIST OF RELEVANCE
I couldn't help but notice that your list of the best of the year didn't have some of the regulars of past years ("The best gadgets of the year", January 2012). For instance, netbooks. Only last year, netbooks formed an important segment in the computing devices section and were being talked about as an emerging market. And who talks about CRT television sets, which again were missing, rightly, from your list? But that is the beauty of technology. What excites today can soon face obsolescence when better technology come in. With each year, gizmos get better and better. - SANJAY VIJ, NEW DELHI

READY RECKONER
The cover story on the best gadgets of 2011 was informative and will prove a useful guide. All those who are planning to buy the best gadgets needed by them and well worth their price will find the story an informative help. The other story, "Affordable Androids" in the same issue too is a ready reckoner and a shopping catalogue for a budget buyer. I hope G&G will continue to give valuable issues on these subjects in the future too. Happy New Year 2012 to the G&G team and all readers of this column. - MAHESH KUMAR, NEW DELHI

PENCHANT FOR INNOVATION

Sony has this penchant for doing different things ("Frame Changer", January 2012). Okay, Apple may be a body-length in front as far as this area is concerned, but remember that it was Sony which brought out the Walkman and popularised the personal video camera with its Handycam (so much so that for a long time video cameras were called Handycams irrespective of the brand) and various other trendsetting gadgets. It isn't surprising then that it is the Japanese company that has given the tablet a new edge with its distinguishing design. It looks different from all other tablets and has pushed the envelope on tablet designing. - ANIMESH RAY, SILIGURI

IN CHARACTER WITH THE PLATFORM
My response in 140 characters to your story on managing tweets ("Get a handle on Twitter", January 2012): Fit in with the ethos of the site. -M PANDAY, VIA EMAIL

ON THE SAME LEVEL TWICE?
As a gamer who reads the interesting columns by Anand Ramachandran regularly, it was with a sense of deja-vu that I read about the newest indie game in town ("The Minecraft Phenomenon", January 2012). It was because a very similar piece had appeared in G&G in November 2011. - KAPIL MORARKA, MUMBAI

As a gamer you do have sharp brains! Yes, we goofed up…and we regret the double dose of Minecraft
