Announced: Merger of US pharma giant Merck and Schering-Plough in a stock-and-cash transaction valued at $41.1 billion. The combined company will bear the name Merck after the transaction is completed.
Dropped: India Inc.’s external commercial borrowings to $1.3 billion in January 2009 compared to $1.66 billion in December 2008 and $1.7 billion in November. Of the total overseas borrowings, $764 million was raised through automatic approval route.
