A collector takes us through the gazillion speed monsters resting in his backyard. The race is on.
The engine is revved up, the speedometer scales to 300 and the scene on the windscreen changes in a flush. In his head, a lover of the road is also the king of the road, and likes to believe he is no less than Bond material. My love for speed led to me lining up my garage with what I consider the best cars in the world.
Since the experience of owning a supercar is nothing short of fantasy, one doesn't kick up a fuss about distinction between the brands and the functionality of each model. But my experience has taught me a little something about the fantastic physics behind these machines, telling me why each is extraordinary in its own right.
An immaculate combination of luxury and power are my Bentley and Rolls Royce models. Their silvered bonnet ornaments and polished handles are as appealing as their wood and veneer laden interiors. When it comes to power, the Bentley GT boasts a power output of 552 bhp and accelerates to 197.6 mph. The Ghost (563 bhp, 155 mph) and Phantom (453 bhp, 149 mph) whooshes you around effortlessly. Any sports freak would lose his head over a Ferrari F40, the first street legal car to break 200 mph.
The two-door coupe features a reduced frontal area a tall rear, making it aerodynamically sound, and a quality that puts it ahead on the track. The thrill is doubled when you feel the breeze in your ears in a Mercedes SL Class Sports, which comes with a retractable hardcover.
The latest addition to my collection is the limited edition Lamborghini Aventador which can hit a top speed of 217 mph in just 2.9 seconds, only a little slower than the world's fastest Bugatti Veyron which hits 252 mph in 2.7 seconds. It is next on my radar.
