Broadway goes to Hollywood
Adapting broadway for the big screen is a tricky task, and one that's been attempted countless times. From The Phantom of The Opera, to Chicago, Hairspray and Grease; there've been some hits and an equal number of misses. Come Christmas, Director Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) has taken on the daunting task of directing the screen adaptation of the hit stage musical, Les Miserables. He has roped in its orignal producer, Cameron Mackintosh to produce the film, and appointed a stellar cast to match. Starring Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter and Amanda Seyfried, the characters have been assigned to worthy hands. Slated for a Christmas release, here's hoping that this one does justice to its musical counterpart.
Thrice the fun
Some artists would be content with an annual single release, but not Green Day. The band is working on a triple album aptly titled Uno! Dos! Tre! The first one, Uno! released in September while Dos! had a November launch. Tre! (named for the band's drummer Tre Cool. rather than the Spanish 'tres' for three) will release by year end. This trilogy is all about the party that never stops but seems to shine brighter than their last releases. The band's older song style of thrashy, dirty punk is the essence of the sound in this album as well. However, this one seems to have a richer grip to it. Fans of the band will certainly have their expectations met. After all, this exciting new release will pack in three times the madness and thrice the fun as well.
Midnight's children
After winning the Booker prize and then the Booker of Bookers, it was only a matter of time before someone snapped up film rights to Salman Rushdie's highly appreciated novel, Midnight's Children. It comes as no surprise that this monumental task has been taken on by Deepa Mehta who has pulled off the impossible by successfully translating the book on celluloid. The adaptation follows the narrative of the original novel and has Shabana Azmi and Rajat Kapoor as star cast.
Me and the devil
New York Times' bestselling author Nick Tosches is all ready with his latest novel. The book tells a gripping and intense tale about a man who is haunted by demons, and finds salvation in the most unlikely of places.
Right place right time
Olly Murs' previous album In Case You Didn't Know was a brilliant pop record. His upcoming album Right Place Right Time features a collaboration with rapper Flo Rida and is already making huge waves.
