Atul Hemani, MD: “The company management is the trustee of the shareholders’ capital and not the owner” |
It’s not just important to be above board and transparent, but also appear to be so for this software company. No pun intended.
The brainchild of two technocrats, Omnitech InfoSolutions is a typical garage start-up set up by Atul Hemani and Avinash Pitale in 1990. “We both hailed from business families and after having worked in HCL, we were contemplating starting our own venture. We put together our savings and with support from family, we started Omnitech,” says Hemani, Managing Director, Omnitech InfoSolutions. Today, almost two decades since it started out, the company has a pan-India as well as a global presence across the US, Bahrain and Japan.
One of their smartest moves—away from their core competency of manufacturing IT-related hardware— was to skim the corporate best practices from the annals of several large companies to formulate its own corporate governance policy. “We believe the company management is the trustee of the shareholders’ capital and not the owner and as such there needs to be a proper distinction between personal conveniences and corporate resources,” elucidates Hemani.
In future, the company plans to expand using both organic and inorganic strategies. Infrastructure management services (IMS) and remote infrastructure management services (RIMS) market opportunities provide a massive potential to Omnitech to expand organically.
