As more of us travel on a regular basis on noisy metros and jets, the demand for noise cancelling headphones is on the rise. Logitech Ultimate Ears 9000 is one such headphone that tries to appeal to the masses with its versatility. It can be wired, go wireless with Bluetooth and offer noise cancelling at the same time.

UE9000 is a very stylish looking set with straight lines and a hint of metal here and there. It is a bit heavy but not bad enough for you not to use it with a smartphone. The ear cups are made of supple leather and the build quality exudes a sort of cocky confidence.

The 3.5mm cable can be detached if you want to go wireless. There is an awkwardly placed power button on top of the left ear cup to switch on noise cancelling as well to initiate pairing. There are volume buttons too on the earcup as well as the cable. The headphones need to be charged using the micro USB port if you tend to use the noise cancelling.

The audio quality is really good when you are on the cable. There was no significant drop in quality when you switch to Bluetooth, but we had slight disturbances here and there. There is no doubt that this headset is very partial to bass, which you enjoy more than anything. To test the noise cancelling, we used the headphone as crackers were going off all around us on Dussehra. Though the sound of the odd big one did creep in, it was definitely much better that listening to the music without any help.

However, we felt the sound in the headphones went up a notch as you turned on noise cancelling. This does not happen in most other such devices. Also the quality of the noise cancelling with the music turned off is not all that great, at least we could not feel the vacuum created by other such headphones. Plus the headphones do make your ear sweat within 30 minutes or so.

The UE9000 is a very decent noise cancelling set with the added advantage of being able to take calls and going wireless. Buy it if you think that versatility justifies the price.
