BenQ has been boasting about the new LW61 ST as the world's first
projector to have the Blue Core Light Engine. This technology utilises quality laser light source for energy efficiency and projection performance. But technically, this is BenQ's proprietary technology and the LW 61 ST is a DLP-based laser projector.
The LW61 ST is a good looking projector with a control panel on the top. BenQ has not compromised on the connectivity and a host of ports including VGA port, HDMI port, LAN, USB port, etc are placed at the back. But videos can't be played directly from the USB thumb drive.
The projector powers up instantly and the 2000 ANSI lumens lamp is good with projection. Unlike other projectors, the laser lamp does not generate any heat and can be used for long durations. It instantly goes into eco mode when the source goes missing. While playing presentations, images and videos, the projection is sharp, bright and clear. However, the colours looked a bit faded while gaming. Two 10W speakers are sealed inside the plastic body to produce loud and clear sound.
The LW61 is capable of projecting images between 80 inches and 350 inches, but its USP is the clear short throw projection from a close distance. The remote control included in the box has a laser key that comes handy during presentations.
BAG IT OR JUNK IT? Convenient short projection distance makes this useful.
