SUMMARY
  • OnePlus may launch OnePlus Open in October.
  • The smartphone is rumoured to feature a 2K 120Hz AMOLED (LTPO) display.
  • The OnePlus Open may cost under Rs 1.2 lakh in India, making it cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

OnePlus is yet to announce the official launch date of its first folding phone, likely to be called OnePlus Open. Ahead of the official launch, leaks and rumours have revealed most of its expected specifications. A new leak now points out that the OnePlus Open might be more durable than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, thanks to more hinges.

According to tipster Max Jambor on X, the OnePlus Open managed to endure over 4 lakh folds during internal testing. In contrast, Samsung has revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 can handle at least 2 lakh folds, implying that there could be some damage after reaching that threshold.

The X post reads, "OnePlus Open has apparently been put through a lot of testing. You can open and close it for at least 400,000 times, which is equivalent to like 100 folds a day for up to 10 years."

As mentioned, the phone's launch date remains unclear. According to old leaks, the OnePlus Open may cost under Rs 1.2 lakh in India, making it cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 at Rs 1,54,999. The most budget-friendly folding phone remains the one by Tenco (Rs 88,888). Google also has its Pixel Fold, though it did not launch in India.

OnePlus may equip the OnePlus One with the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 SoCby Qualcomm. The smartphone is rumoured to feature a 2K 120Hz AMOLED (LTPO) display, though the exact sizes of the inner and outer displays remain unclear. Based on renders, the OnePlus Open looks wider and similar to the Oppo Find N. In the power department, there might be a 4800mAh battery with 100W SuperVOOC charging support. Being a flagship device, OnePlus may also consider incorporating wireless charging support.

The rear camera system is anticipated to be a highlight, likely featuring three camera sensors tuned by Hasselblad. The configuration may comprise a 50-megapixel (IMX 890) primary camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a periscope lens. For selfies, the OnePlus One is rumoured to sport a 32-megapixel selfie snapper within a hole-punch cutout on the cover display. There could be an additional selfie camera on the main display.

Render leaks suggest a sleek black colour variant, but OnePlus may introduce more options to cater to diverse consumer preferences.

Interestingly, OnePlus has already started generating hype around the upcoming device. Following the Galaxy Z Fold 5 launch last month, OnePlus stated in an X post, "We OPEN when others FOLD," suggesting the name of the smartphone.
