Is nuclear power the way forward for india?
Yes. Abhishek Singhvi, Congress Spokesperson
Nuclear power can change the face of India's energy supply. Over the last Five-Year Plan, ending this year, the country has achieved only 50 per cent of its projected capacity addition in electricity. I think India's growing reliance on coal and its even more unsustainable dependence on expensive oil can be reduced once we increase the percentage of our nuclear power from the present measly level of 3 per cent to 20 per cent.
Yes. Sanjiv Goenka, Vice Chairman, RPG Enterprises
Nuclear power as an energy security is certainly a good option. I sincerely believe that the future of India's power infrastructure lies in nuclear energy. It is self-evident in the sense that it is a technologically advanced system to generate power and also the only way forward.
Maybe. T.K. Bhaumik, Chief Economist, Reliance Industries
Given the geo-political turmoil around the world, the country should take a fresh look at the issue of nuclear energy. Since the country is dependent on imports of nuclear fuel to run its reactors, it doesn't seem like a sound option. But we can always resort to it as an alternative fuel.
