I think the nuclear deal with the US is still alive. The government has completed negotiations on the India-specific safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and it is now ready to be submitted to the Board of Governors for approval. I think the government is waiting for the right moment to push the deal through.

I think the Indo-US nuclear deal is on. We need to understand that the US is just a gatekeeper, and India’s deal is actually with the international community. To continue to grow at a robust pace over the next 10-15 years, the country needs nuclear power to meet its growing energy requirements. Therefore, in the interest of India’s development, the nuclear deal will have to happen.
