73,336 million units: India’s power deficit in 2007-08, up from 40,000 million units three years ago. The figure has risen from 7.3 per cent of power demand in 2004-05 to 9.9 per cent in 2007-08. According to the Central Electricity Authority, the figure for the current financial year is expected to fall marginally to 8.8 per cent (70, 616 million units).
