IIM Bangalore launches training programme for aspiring women politicians

IIM Bangalore launches training programme for aspiring women politicians

In the wake of the women's reservation Bill gathering steam, the institute, in collaboration with the Delhi-based Centre for Social Research (CSR), has introduced a crash course in politics, exclusively for the fairer sex.

After creating a cache of leaders in management, IIM-Bangalore now has its eyes set on the field of politics. In the wake of the women's reservation Bill gathering steam, the institute, in collaboration with the Delhi-based Centre for Social Research (CSR), has introduced a crash course in politics, exclusively for the fairer sex.

Representation of women in local bodies has gone up to 50 per cent. Though the state and central governments have been found lacking on this count, the women's reservation Bill, once passed, would guarantee 33 per cent reservation for them in state legislatures and the Lok Sabha.

"There is a need to create a pipeline of trained women politicians and that's exactly the objective of this programme," Ranjana Kumari, director, CSR, said.

The 10-week long certificate programme, called India-Women in Leadership, will be conducted in Delhi, Bangalore and Singapore.
