Aurobindo Pharma Vice Chairman and Co-founder K Nityananda Reddy was shot at on Wednesday when he was returning from his morning walk in the tony Banjara Hills of Hyderabad. He escaped unhurt.
The unidentified attacker was armed with an AK-47 rifle, according to PV Ramaprasad Reddy, Co-founder of Aurobindo Pharma.
Nityananda Reddy's brother, N Prasad Reddy, who was also returning from morning walk, tried to catch the attacker but the man fired at the car and escaped leaving the rifle behind.
Ramaprasad Reddy said the attack looked like an attempt to kidnap Nityananda Reddy.
The police are investigating the incident. No one has been arrested so far.
Ramaprasad Reddy and Nityananda Reddy founded Aurobindo Pharma and began their entrepreneurial journey together in Pondicherry in 1986 when they set up a plant to make a key ingredient going into the making of a widely used antibiotic called semi-synthetic penicillin.
