In a Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P. Chidambaram was on Tuesday made the new Finance Minister.
Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde replaced Chidambaram as the new Home Minister, while Minister for Corporate Affairs Veerappa Moily got the additional charge of the energy ministry.
The Prime Minister had earlier retained the finance portfolio after then minister Pranab Mukherjee had resigned from the Cabinet to contest the presidential election.
The Prime Minister had sent a note to President Pranab Mukherjee proposing the Cabinet reshuffle. The President has notified the changes.
