
Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, will head the Kaya Kalp Council, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced on Thursday. The mandate of the Council would be to recommend innovative methods and processes for improvement and transformation of the Railways, Prabhu told news agency PTI.
Prabhu said, "Today (March 19), we are announcing of appointment of Ratan Tata, who is no longer in business but has rich experience, as chairman of Kaya Kalp Council."
Shiv Gopal Mishra, general secretary of All Indian Railwaymen's Federation, and M. Raghavaiah, general secretary of National Federation of Indian Railwaymen - the two recognised federations representing the railway employee - were also appointed as members.
The minister said that Kaya Kalp was not possible without any new idea and new experience, adding, "So, Ratan Tata and these two distinguished leaders are now part of the Council. We will also appoint more members in due course. He said that the mandate of the Council would be to suggest ways for betterment of Railways."
