Stocks in focus: Lupin, NBCC, Reliance Industries and more

Lupin on Thursday said it would acquire New Jersey-based generic drug firms GAVIS for $880 million to boost its presence in the US, the company's biggest market.

Triggered by weak Asian markets, the key benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty plunged around 0.34 per cent and 0.32 per cent to 28,273.49 and ,8562.65, respectively, in the early trade (at 9.19 am) on Friday.

Markets lost half a per cent on Thursday due to profit booking after seeing over 300 points relief rally in earlier sessions. Private banks, capital goods, select metals and pharma stocks dragged the market.

  • Lupin: The pharma major on Thursday said it would acquire New Jersey-based generic drug firms GAVIS for $880 million to boost its presence in the US, the company's biggest market. Lupin also announced its Q1 results on July 23 post market hours. For the quarter ended June 2015, the company posted net profit of Rs 699.92 crore, down 31.16 per cent, against Rs 1,016.73 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago. In early trade on Friday, Lupin were trading at Rs 1721.05, down 0.44 per cent against its previous close.
  • Alstom India: Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has awarded Rs 1,497 crore contract for electrification, signaling and telecom works for a part of the Eastern DFC project to a unit Alstom. Alstom India shares were trading at Rs 835, up 2.47 per cent against its previous close.
  • Reliance Industries: The company will announce its Q1 result on Friday. For the quarter ended March 2015, the company registered net profit of Rs 6,243 crore, up 10.87 per cent against Rs 5,631 crore in the same quarter last year. At 9.25 am, shares of Reliance Industries were at Rs 1041.80, down 0.37 per cent against its previous close.
  • Wipro: The company announced its first quarter result on Thursday post market hours. Wipro posted a sequential revenue growth of 2.59 per cent that met market expectations and forecasted sequential sales growth in range of 1.7-3.5 per cent for the September quarter. Shares of Wipro were trading 1.77 per cent lower at Rs 578 in early trade.
  • National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC): According to reports, NBCC has signed an agreement to redevelop the Indian Institute of Public Administration's campus for Rs 435 crore. Shares of NBCC were trading at Rs 1079.80, up 2.20 per cent against its previous close.
