The key benchmark index S&P BSE Sensex declined 2.29 per cent, or 629.82 points, and closed the day at 26,877.48.

The CNX Nifty index on the National Stock Exchange also lost 2.38 per cent, or 198.30 points, and ended the day at 8,126.95.

Jubilant Industries: Jubilant Industries' shares surged to their new 52- week high on the bourses on Tuesday, hitting the upper circuit in early trade, after the company announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Jubilant Agri and Consumer Products has agreed to transfer its retail hypermarket business to Aditya Birla Retail.

On Tuesday, the share price of Jubilant Industries jumped 10 per cent to Rs 163.90 on the Bombay Stock Exchange and 9.97 per cent to Rs 167.60 on the National Stock Exchange. The share price of the company jumped 66 per cent in the past six trading sessions till May 12.

The company registered net profit of Rs 715.05 crore in the quarter under review against Rs 2,528.55 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories: The share price of Dr Reddy's Laboratories jumped 3.08 per cent to 3465.60 post Q4 numbers. For the quarter ended March 2015, the company posted net profit of Rs 571.42 crore, up 21.21 per cent, against Rs 471.43 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.
