The union cabinet has approved the spectrum pricing for 5G auctions, which will usher in 10 times faster data speeds than available currently. Radiowaves totalling 72 gigahertz with 20 years of validity will be auctioned across the low, mid and high frequency bands. The government has also decided to do away with upfront payment for airwaves. The successful bidders can pay for 5G spectrum in 20 annual instalments.
