COVID-19 Second wave: How states across India are curbing the spread

India recorded its highest ever new COVID-19 cases in a single day at over one lakh, yesterday.  States across the country are scrambling to curb the spread by imposing different restrictions.Maharashtra has already imposed night curfew and weekend lockdown amid the surge in infection. Most states are tightening COVID norms.

New Delhi will also start a 10 pm to 5 am night curfew from now till April 30, given the steep rise in COVID-19 cases.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier  this week said Delhi will not go in for lockdown and that the situation was being monitored closely.

• Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government on Sunday announced new restrictions including a night curfew in the state followed by a strict lockdown over the weekends amid an unprecedented surge in COVID cases across the states. Everything except for essential services will be closed on weekends.
As Maharashtra battles the second wave of COVID, the fear of lockdown is pushing migrants to go back to their hometowns in Madhya Pradesh, UP and Bihar among others.

 

• Rajasthan

Amid an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases, the Rajasthan government on Sunday also issued new guidelines to stem the virus spread. The government has made the RT-PCR test mandatory for those entering the state and travelling outside.
Cinema halls, theatres, multiplexes, amusement parks are closed from April 5. Swimming pools, gyms will not be allowed to open.

• Uttarakhand

In a bid to stem the Covid spread, Uttarakhand government has also announced some lockdown-like restrictions at crowded places. A complete lockdown in Mussoorie's Galway Cottage area and St. George's School, Barlow Ganj area has been announced. Those places have also been declared as containment zones.
The Uttarakhand government has also made it mandatory for people coming from a dozen states to furnish negative RT-PCR test reports not older than 72 hours on arrival from April 1.

• Chattisgarh

Durg district administration has announced a complete lockdown in the district from April 6 to 14. Apart from it, there is a strict night curfew order in many of Chhattisgarh districts, including Raipur.

• Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government also decided to extend to April 11 the closure of all schools for students up to Class 8. Earlier, the Yogi Adityanath-led government had closed schools till April 4. Several malls have been sealed to curb COVID-inappropriate behaviour.

• Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government has also restricted the movement of people from neighbouring Chhattisgarh to curb the spread of COVID-19. Lockdown will be enforced in isolated areas whenever needed, but "no lockdown in the entire state" said MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday.
But some three days of lockdown is being enforced in some parts of the states like three-day lockdown in Chhindwara and two-day restrictions in Betul. The state has already sealed Madhya Pradesh's areas bordering Maharashtra.
