In pics: Indian-origin CEOs leading the world's biggest firms

Indian American corporate veteran Raj Subramaniam will be the new Chief Executive Officer of the delivery giant FedEx, as per an official release. Subramaniam will replace Frederick W Smith in the role with effect from June 1. Smith will take office as the executive chairman from June 1.

Parag Agrawal is an IIT Bombay graduate and went to study at Stanford University. Agrawal was appointed as the Twitter CEO in November 2021 when its founder Jack Dorsey stepped down from the position.

Satya Nadella had completed his undergraduation from Manipal University of Technology, and went on to study at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and University of Chicago. Nadella was also added to the list of influential Indian-origin CEOs when he became the Executive Chairman and CEO of Microsoft in 2014.

Sundar Pichai, also known as Pichai Sundararajan, is an Indian-born American business executive.. Born in Madurai, Pichai earned his degree from IIT Kharagpur in metallurgical engineering. After IIT Kharagpur, he rose to the position of the CEO of Google in 2015 and was eventually appointed the CEO of Alphabet Inc, the parent company of Google, in December 2019.

Shantanu Narayen was vorn in Hyderabad and completed his studies at Osmania University, after which he went to Bowling Green State University and University of California. Narayen had served as Adobe Inc.'s President and Chief Operating Officer, after which he was appointed as the CEO in December 2007.

Leena Nair, apart from being an Indian-origin CEO, was also appointed as the first woman and youngest CEO of Chanel in December 2021. She is an alumnus of the XLRI- Xavier School of Management and Walchand College of Engineering. Nair was previously the Chief Human Resource Officer of Unilever.

Arvind Krishna, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, completed his further studies at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Krishna was appointed as the CEO of IBM in April 2020, while he was further appointed as the Chairman in January 2021.

Anjali Sud is an American businesswoman and the CEO of online video platform ‘Vimeo’. Sud was appointed to the position in July 2017, after previously serving as General Manager and head of marketing. Sud, after becoming CEO, refocused Vimeo’s strategy and pivoted it to a SaaS (software as a service) company.

Nikesh Arora, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, BHU, pursued further education from Boston College and Northeastern University. Arora was appointed as the CEO and Chairman of Palo Alto Networks on June 2018. Arora was formerly a senior executive at Google and had also served as the president of SoftBank Group from October 2014 to June 2016.

Amrapali Gan was born in Mumbai and is an alumnus of California State University. She was appointed as the CEO of content creators' site ‘Only Fans’ in December 2021 and succeeded founder Tim Stokely to the position. Gan had joined Only Fans in September 2020 as chief marketing and communications officer.

Raghu Raghuram holds an MBA degree from the Wharton School of Business and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. Raghuram had joined VMware in 2003 and currently serves as the company's CEO.

Prior to VMware, Raghuram held product management and marketing roles at AOL, Bang Networks and Netscape.

Revathi Advaithi is an Indian-born American business executive and CEO of the $24-billion Flex. She is also an advocate for women in STEM and in the workplace. Prior to joining Flex in 2019, Advaithi worked in various leadership positions at Eaton and Honeywell.

George Kurian was born in Kottayam district in Kerala. He started pursuing engineering at IIT-Madras, but left six months later to join Princeton University. He also holds an MBA degree from Stanford. Kurian became the CEO and president of storage and data management company NetApp in June 2015.

George, before to joining NetApp, was vice president and general manager of the Application Networking and Switching Technology Group at Cisco Systems.

Sanjay Mehrotra was born in Kanpur and is an alumnus of BITS Pilani. Mehrotra had completed his higher education from UC Berkeley. He took over as the CEO of Micron Technologies in 2017.

Interestingly, Mehrotra was also the co-founder of Sandisk and served as its CEO in 2016.

Jayshree Ullal was born in London and was raised in India. She is an alumnus of Santa Clara University and San Francisco State University. She is the CEO & President of Arista Networks and has been serving in the position since October 2008.
