The fatal Air India Express Boeing 737 crash, which took place at Kozhikode on August 7, claimed 18 lives, including that of four children and two pilots.
The plane was coming from Dubai with 191 passengers on board when it skidded off the runway and broke into two parts. The Kozhikode crash was not the first time India's national carrier has been involved in a crash. Here are some of the Air India Boeing 737 crashes you should know about.

Mangalore crash 2010

Air India Express flight 812 from Dubai to Mangalore met a similar fate on May 22, 2010, as the one in Kozhikode when it slid off the runway, catching fire, killing 158 passengers.

Kanishka bombing 1985

In another fatal plane crash, which took place on June 23, 1985, an Air India Express flight 182 called 'Kanishka' exploded in mid-air. The flight left Toronto for New Delhi when a bomb exploded. The bomb had been secretly placed in Air India Flight 182 by Khalistani terrorists. The bomb exploded while the flight was over the Atlantic Ocean, killing all the 329 passengers on board. The incident is said to be the largest mass killing in Canadian history.

Arabian Sea crash 1978

This one is known as the deadliest flight accident in Air India's history. On January 1, (New Years' Day) 1978, right after two-minutes of take-off from Mumbai's Santacruz airport at 8 pm, the plane crashed into the Arabian Sea. The plane, which was headed to Dubai, killed all 213 passengers on board.

Switzerland's Mont Blanc 1966 crash

In January 1966, Air India flight 101, the Boeing 707 (Kanchenjunga) crashed into Switzerland's Mont Blanc, killing all 117 passengers and crew members on-board.
After every few years, some remains of the aircraft were found at the crash site and some a little away from it.
Highly revered nuclear physicist Homi Jehangir Bhabha, the father of India's nuclear programme, was one of the passengers in that plane.

Air India Express 245 crash in 1950

This Air India Express 245 crash also took place in the same region-Mont Blanc mountains- in November 1950 leaving 48 passengers on board dead.
