Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a helpdesk to assist inoperative account holders to settle or transfer their funds. Currently around Rs 27,000 crore is lying as unclaimed money with EPFO.
Accounts which have not received any contribution for last 36 months are considered as inoperative accounts and they do not receive any further interest.
To avail the service you need to provide personal and employments details, such as, establishment code, PF account no, address, date of joining on the EPFO's website. Thereafter, a reference ID is created for tracking purposes. Based on your tracking number the concerned field officer (where the member held his PF account) will contact and guide you for settlement or transfer of funds.
EPFO has stated that the introduction of Universal Account Number (UAN) is expected to facilitate the initiative as UAN would enable consolidation of multiple previous PF account numbers with the present one.
