'Drastic changes' in monetary policy framework can upset bond market, warns Raghuram Rajan

As the economy slowly comes out of the pandemic blues, former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan on Sunday cautioned that "drastic changes" in India's monetary policy framework can upset the bond market as the current system has helped in containing inflation and promoting growth. Rajan, also added that the government's ambitious target to make India a USD 5-trillion economy by 2024-25 was "more aspirational, rather than a carefully computed one even before the pandemic".

Not all windows to be shut for cryptocurrency, says FM Nirmala Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the government is not shutting all windows for cryptocurrencies, or blockchain, and fintech as yet. Speaking at the India Today Conclave South on Sunday, March 14, FM Sitharaman stated that a Cabinet note was being readied in this regard, which will give exhaustive information on the formulation of cryptocurrency in India.

The Centre is planning to sell its remaining stake in already privatised Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports. This is part of the Central government's ambitious Rs 2.5 lakh crore asset monetisation pipeline, which has been identified to raise additional resources.  The aviation ministry will obtain the necessary approval required for the disinvestment of the equity stake of AAI in the respective joint ventures running these four airports.

Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze, arrested in the probe into recovery of explosives from a car near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's residence, was on Sunday remanded to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody till March 25. The NIA arrested Waze for his alleged involvement in placing the explosives-laden vehicle on Carmichael Road near billionaire Mukesh Ambani's residence Antilia on February 25, an agency spokesperson said.

Never threatened social media platforms' staff of jail term: IT ministry

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has clarified the government never threatened employees of any social media platform. "None of the government communications, either written or oral, have ever threatened the employees of any of the social media platforms of jail term," MeitY said. The ministry was reacting to reports that suggest Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter employees being threatened with jail term. It stated that the recent guidelines on social media platforms simply required them to put in place a robust grievance redressal mechanism for its users.
